What is an arboretum? Well, besides all the natural beauty you can imagine, an arboretum is a special type of botanical garden which is dedicated to the preservation of trees.

In the town of Trochu, you can visit a delightful Arboretum and Gardens that showcase native plants, trees, flowers, and shrubs.

Maintained by the Arboretum and District Society, Trochu Arboretum and Gardens is home to many varieties of native flora and fauna. While exploring all the different trees and flowers, you will also enjoy the sights and sounds of many bird species.

Among the greenery, you will find picturesque pathways for wandering and meandering, as well as benches and gazebos for places to stop and smell the Alberta Wild Roses.

The area also boasts aquatic plants and animals in the Dr. Hay Memorial Pond where you can catch glimpses of frogs, goldfish, or koi.

Being an “Arboretum,” these gardens are a great visit for a fall colour visit and during the winter season, the Arboretum and District Society puts on a Christmas light show – The Forest of Lights.
