If you want to pair a historic hotel stay with a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Québec City has been added to a new global list.
Fairmont Le Château Frontenac is the Canadian entry on Historic Hotels Worldwide’s 2026 Top 25 World Heritage Experiences List, which recognizes 25 historic hotels located within or near UNESCO-recognized sites.
Built in 1893, Château Frontenac sits within the Historic District of Old Québec, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985 for its preserved French-colonial character.
You’re staying in a particularly historic corner of the city. Québec was founded by Samuel de Champlain in 1608, while the hotel occupies the site of the 1620 Fort of St. Louis. From the property, you can walk to the Fortifications of Québec National Historic Site or take the funicular to Quartier Petit-Champlain.
Historic Hotels Worldwide says properties must be at least 75 years old and recognized for their historical significance to qualify for membership.
