Family Nature Nights

Discover aquatic insects, birds, leaves or even the habits of urban coyotes! Family Nature Nights (FNN) is a project designed by Nature Alberta’s Nature Kids, The Alberta Science Network and The City of Edmonton, Community Recreation Services (CRS). FNN are 2 hours long and include a formal or direct teaching experience about a nature topic, guided nature walk and a game, activity and/or craft to reinforce learning.

 

Tickets : FREE, Register at the event.

These events are expected to reach capacity, so arrive early to avoid disappointment.

Will run rain or shine – please dress for the weather. In the event of extreme weather, a cancellation notice will be posted on our Facebook page and in the Facebook Event Discussion.

• Urban Birds: Wednesday, July 22nd, 2026 @ Alfred H. Savage Centre, Whitemud Park, 13909 Fox Dr NW, Edmonton
  • • Registration from 6:00 PM – 6:25 PM | Activities from 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM
    • The city of Edmonton is rich in birdlife! Come learn about some of our local birds with the Royal Alberta Museum and how the City is creating habitat for our feathered friends with Root for Trees! We’ll also take a guided nature walk with Edmonton Nature Club and Bird Dreams. There’s lots to explore!
• Crawling Critters: Wednesday, July 29th, 2026 @ Gold Bar Park, 10955 50 St NW, Edmonton
  • • Registration from 6:00 PM – 6:25 PM | Activities from 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM
    • Get up close with the small stuff in nature! We’ll have fun catching bugs with expert entomologists, have fun learning about the woods with Edmonton Forest School, and go on nature walk with local nature guides!
• Movement in Nature: Wednesday, August 5th, 2026 @ John Walter Museum, 9180 Walterdale Hill NW, Edmonton

    • Get in the groove with movement-based activities around the John Walter Museum in Edmonton’s Kinsman Park, with activities led by City of Edmonton nature interpreters, the Invasive Plan Outreach Program, and City Arts Centre!

    • Become an excellent nature detective with this event at Willmore Park! We’ll play nature-themed games, relax around the bonfire with the Rotary Club of Edson, and go on nature walks along the beautiful trails led by experts from Nature Alberta!
• Wonderful Watersheds: Wednesday, August 19th, 2026 | 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM @ Lois Hole Centennial Provincial Park Day Use Area, 400 Ray Gibbon Dr, St. Albert
  • • Join us for a summer celebration with our yearly festival-style event at Lois Hole Centennial Provincial Park and Big Lake! Learn all about wetland water with Alberta Lake Management Society, and the bogs of northern Alberta with Wagner Natural Area. Check out the amphibian station hosted by Alberta Amphibian and Reptile Conservancy and examine the watershed model brought by the North Saskatchewan Watershed Alliance, and much more!
