Fat Bastard Burrito, the sister brand of the legendary St. John’s-born Mary Brown’s Chicken, is set to establish its first-ever footprint outside of Ontario.
Slated to open its doors at 5 p.m. on Friday, July 21, at 336 Water St., downtown St. John’s, the novel dining spot brings a twist to the burrito, quesadilla, and taco chain scene.
To mark the occasion, the first 100 customers will receive limited-edition T-shirts emblazoned with the brand’s edgy slogan: “Enjoy a burrito and GTFO.”
This move to St. John’s was strategically decided by MBI Brands Inc., the parent company of Mary Brown’s Chicken, which purchased Fat Bastard Burrito in the preceding summer. This collaboration has since grown into one of Canada’s largest privately held quick-service restaurant companies.
“We are thrilled to be expanding outside of Ontario and we couldn’t think of a better market to start than the home of Mary Brown’s Chicken,” said Gregory Roberts, owner of MBI Brands Inc. “We see this as an essential step toward national expansion and can’t wait to share our menu with the rest of Canada.”
Since its inception in 2010, Fat Bastard Burrito has been striving to elevate Toronto’s burrito scene. Per the news release, their secret lies in the in-house preparation, traditional cooking methods, and a wide array of unique toppings, including noodles. With an extensive offering of eight proteins, twelve toppings, eight sauces, and up to three tortilla options, they offer a virtually limitless range of customizable options for any palate.
Make sure to watch out for the Fat Bastard Street Team if you’re at the Pedestrian Mall on Sat, July 29 and Sun, July 30 from 12 to 2 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. – they might just hook you up with a sweet deal.
