Are you feeling low and blue as Valentine’s Day approaches because of a certain someone?

Valley Zoo Development Society has a brilliant idea to help you get that closure you need. With their Dump Your Ex & Adopt an Animal fundraising campaign, you can adopt a frozen rodent or mealworm. Name it after your ex, and it will be fed to a meerkat and snake.

You may also get to watch your “ex” mealworm devoured by a furry meerkat.

Not only will you have a little fun with this, but you’ll also be contributing to a great cause by donating to the zoo. The campaign aims to support these incredible Valley Zoo animals by raising funds for them.

There are four different adoption options you can choose to donate to: Mealworm Tier 1, Mealworm Tier 2, Rodent Tier 1 and Rodent Tier 2.

Mealworm Tier 1 is a $5 donation with which you can adopt and name a mealworm and get a hilarious meerkat-themed Valentine’s Day card.

The Mealworm Tier 2 is a $10 donation and includes a meerkat-themed card and the opportunity to feed you “ex” to a meerkat. You can watch this live on The Valley Zoo’s Instagram account. Only 10 lucky names will be selected randomly.

The Rodent Tier 1 is a $25 donation with a funny snake-themed Valentine’s Day card and your pet rodent a.k.a. your “ex” will be fed to a hungry snake.

Rodent Tier 2 is a $50 donation with a snake-themed card and of course the most creative way to say goodbye to the ex. You will also get a certificate saying that your ex was fed to a snake.

Edmonton Valley Zoo is not the only zoo in Canada where you can name a critter after your ex. Toronto Zoo and the Toronto Zoo Wildlife Conservancy are hosting “name a cockroach” fundraiser.

Naming a critter after your ex started in the U.S. with San Antonio Zoo hosting it’s Cry Me a Cockroach Fundraiser four years ago. El Paso Zoo also feeds cockroaches to their meerkat population under the fundraising event, “Quit Bugging Me”.

If all this sounds wonderful, all you need to do is head over to the Zoo’s website, make your donation, and say your goodbyes as you watch your ex being fed to a lucky snake or meerkat on their live stream. Join their live stream on V day @BuildingOurZoo, and you’ll be over your ex in no time.

DUMP YOUR EX, ADOPT AN ANIMAL

What: The Valley Zoo Development Society presents its first “Dump Your Ex, Adopt an Animal” fundraising campaign where funds raised will go towards various enrichments for animals at the Edmonton Valley Zoo! This valentine’s, join in the fun by donating to symbolically name a frozen rodent or mealworm after your not-so-special someone!
For a small donation, you can symbolically adopt a mealworm or another tasty treat and name it after your ex. Later on, Valley Zoo Development Society will host a livestream where you can say goodbye to your old flame and watch one of the furry, feathery, or scaly friends take care of business.

When: Until February 14, 2023

Where: Online/Instagram
