Join Alberta Ballet for a season of the exotic, the edgy and the elegant.

It all starts with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity as Alberta Ballet boldly present the Canadian premiere of Bollywood’s most acclaimed global sensation Taj Express, straight from Mumbai. This magnificent ensemble captures the vibrant, expressive spirit of Bollywood movies that have been entertaining billions in India for generations.

Meanwhile, Artistic Director Jean Grand-Maître has already begun work on the world premiere of his first horror ballet, Frankenstein, just in time for Halloween. Perhaps the only myth created since the early Greeks, Viktor Frankenstein’s hideous offspring’s tragic tale will be transposed to our modern times in this highly-anticipated work featuring six world class designers.

After Christmas and Alberta Ballet’s annual production of The Nutcracker, Alberta Ballet presents yet another Canadian premiere, LA’s explosive Diavolo, seen by more than 90 million people worldwide as finalists on America’s Got Talent. This high adrenaline and exceptionally athletic dance company fuses architectural elements with mind blowing contemporary dance, martial arts, acrobatics, gymnastics, and hip-hop.

Next year also marks the introduction of Alberta Ballet Unleashed, a slick, provocative and sensuous evening of contemporary dance featuring our 30 fearless dancers in three contrasting ballets including a world premiere by Montreal’s rising star Anne Plamondon, the Canadian premiere of renowned American dance-maker Helen Pickett’s celebrated ballet Petal as well as legendary Russian choreographer George Balanchine’s masterwork Allegro Brillante, set to Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 3.

As if the season didn’t pack a big enough punch already, the last two productions will no doubt be instant crowd-pleasers.

Septime Webre’s exquisite and witty Peter Pan will make its Canadian premiere in March followed by the world premiere of Christopher Anderson’s lavish and heart-wrenching Swan Lake. A title that has become synonymous with ballet itself, Swan Lake encapsulates grace and elegance while providing unparalleled artistic and technical challenges. Supported by Tchaikovsky’s incredibly expressive score, this story of love and heartbreak has been captivating audiences for centuries. An apex of any season, this world premiere is poised to take your breath away.
