Environment Canada has issued snowfall warning for areas north of Calgary from Airdrie to Smoky Lake including Edmonton and in between Central Alberta regions.
The agency says that though general snowfall amounts will be 10-15 cm, however, locally heavier amounts of 20-25 cm is possible by the time the snow ends this afternoon.
The heavy snow is banded so the range of snowfall amounts in the warned region could vary significantly. Snowfall accumulation rates have been on the order of 2-5 cm/hour in the heaviest bands.
The heavy snow will taper off by Friday afternoon.
