During the war, the “Doughnut Lassies” of The Salvation Army provided soldiers with doughnuts, offering comfort and a reminder of home amidst the hardships of battle. This day not only commemorates these acts of kindness but also underscores the ongoing efforts of The Salvation Army in assisting those in need today.
“The Salvation Army played a significant role on the frontlines of the First World War, and we continue to be on the frontlines providing life-changing support for families struggling with food affordability and securing permanent housing every day,” said Glenn van Gulik, Salvation Army divisional secretary for public relations in Ontario.
With programs focused on food affordability and housing, the organization plays a crucial role in providing essential support to families across Ontario. Last year alone, The Salvation Army helped over 1.5 million individuals with meals, shelter, and crisis support, according to their news release.

With two special options available – one featuring the iconic Salvation Army shield and another with vibrant red icing – each purchase contributes directly to the organization’s transformative efforts. Specifically, $1.75 from the shield doughnut and $1 from the red icing doughnut go towards supporting The Salvation Army’s programs.

The doughnuts are available for pickup or delivery in the Greater Toronto Area, provides a perfect opportunity to contribute to a meaningful cause while commemorating the historical significance of the “Doughnut Lassies.”
