Ontario is broadening its energy‑efficiency push, adding consumer rebates for efficient appliances and increasing support for industrial and institutional projects to curb electricity use and manage costs.
Under the Home Renovation Savings Program, households connected to Ontario’s electricity grid, including condos and apartments, can seek appliance rebates when replacing existing electric units with eligible ENERGY STAR Most Efficient 2025 models bought from any retailer.
Rebate amounts are:
- heat pump clothes dryer $200
- induction stove $150
- washing machine $75
- refrigerator $50
- freezer $50
- Dishwasher $25.
Applications must be submitted within 60 days of purchase for appliances bought after Nov. 19, 2025.
The program also adds an attic‑insulation rebate that does not require a home energy assessment, while keeping an assessment‑based option.

The energy savings program began its first phase on January 7, 2025, covering upgrades like smart thermostats, insulation, and rooftop solar. As of June 2025, the province reports achieving up to 685 gigawatt-hours in electricity savings and 226 megawatts in peak demand reductions—equivalent to removing more than 220,000 homes from the grid.
Support is also being expanded for large-scale projects through the Save on Energy XLerate Program. The maximum per-project incentive will increase from $5 million to $15 million for industrial, municipal, institutional, and health-care organizations. Additional measures include up to $100,000 for feasibility study costs, streamlined applications, and broader sector eligibility.
Announced in North York, the measures fall under a 12‑year, $10.9‑billion Energy Efficiency Framework and the province’s Energy for Generations plan.
“With electricity demand rising, keeping more money in people’s pockets has never been more important,” said Stephen Lecce, Minister of Energy and Mines.
“By expanding Ontario’s energy savings programs to include energy efficient appliances, families save money and Ontario saves power – the ultimate win-win. After energy costs quadrupled under the former government, our number one priority is affordability for families, which is why we expanded this savings program, permanently cut the gas tax, and led the charge to scrap the carbon tax.”
