Boston Pizza has announced a nationwide giveaway of 30,000 free pizzas this Wednesday, June 26, following the Edmonton Oilers’ loss in game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals.
Originally, the company had pledged to distribute the pizzas only if the Oilers ended Canada’s 30-year championship drought.
The last time a Canadian team clinched the Stanley Cup was in 1993 when the Montreal Canadiens defeated the Los Angeles Kings. In anticipation of possibly ending this long-standing dry spell, Boston Pizza had launched a campaign titled “Team Up for the Win,” rallying fans across the nation.
However, with the recent defeat, Boston Pizza decided to honour their commitment as a gesture to lift spirits and celebrate the Oilers’ efforts.
On Wednesday, June 26, Boston Pizza is set to deliver what it describes as “the biggest (though maybe saddest) pizza delivery in history.”
Oilers fans, especially those in Edmonton and other select markets (yet to be announced), can get free pizzas.
Further details are yet to be announced.
