The GTA town hosts free public viewing parties to celebrate McDavid’s achievements and cheer on the hometown star.
Connor McDavid, born in Richmond Hill and raised in Newmarket, has become a beacon of pride for the town. His journey began at a young age, practicing hockey in his basement and quickly advancing through local leagues despite age restrictions. McDavid’s exceptional talent led him to join the York Simcoe Express, where he won four Ontario Minor Hockey Association championships. He continued to shine, later playing for the Toronto Marlboros and earning accolades such as the GTHL Player of the Year Award in 2012.
As captain of the Edmonton Oilers, McDavid’s career has been a testament to his dedication and skill, inspiring many in our community. Now, as he competes in the Stanley Cup Final, Newmarket residents have a chance to come together and show their support.
Stanley Cup Final Viewing Parties will be held at the Riverwalk Commons, now temporarily named Connor McDavid Square, or Ray Twinney Recreation Complex, for free viewing parties. The first 600 attendees nightly with a non-perishable food item will receive a free towel.
