List of New Restrictions in Quebec Effective Dec. 20, 2021

Premier François Legault announced new restrictions and capacity limitations to curb the rapid rise of new COVID-19 cases fueled by the Omicron variant.

The province reported 2,736 new cases today.

 

Quebec is limiting the capacity of businesses to 50 per cent starting Monday. Other measures include reducing private gatherings to 10 indoors and 20 outdoors, delaying high school and university in-person classes until January 10th.

This comes as the report by Institut national de santé publique du Québec (INSPQ) projected that new cases will increase exponentially which will lead to a significant increase in hospitalizations.

Private gatherings

  • Indoor private gatherings are limited to a maximum of 10 people and 20 outdoors.

Schools

  • Secondary, college, university and vocational training reopening postponed to January 10 in all regions of Quebec.
  • The reopening date for elementary school students remains the same as the one planned according to the calendar of school service centers and school boards.

Shops and shopping centers

  • Capacity reduced to 50%.

Places of worship and essential public activities (assemblies, meetings)

  • Capacity reduced to 50% to a maximum of 250 people, who must remain seated
  • For weddings and funerals without vaccination passport is limited to a maximum of 25 people.

Public events like cinemas, events, shows

  • Capacity reduced to 50% for performance halls and dinner shows.
  • People must remain seated and masking is compulsory unless eating and drinking.

Restaurants and bars

  • Capacity reduced to 50% by spacing the tables as much as possible
  • Limit of a maximum of 10 people per table (or members of three homes per table)
  • No dancing or karaoke-type activity.
  • People must remain seated.

Sports and Spas

  • Capacity reduced to 50%
  • Tournaments or sports competitions are suspended.
  • Indoor activity is limited to a maximum of 25 people.
  • Distance of 2 m between people in gyms.
  • Vaccination passport required in spas (except for personal care)

Other Measures

Quebec is expanding booster doses distribution by reducing the interval between the last dose and the booster dose to three months. Health Minister Christian Dubé announced that booster doses will be available to those 65 and over starting December 20th and 60-64 years olds starting December 27th.

The province is also distributing rapid COVID-19 antigen test kits. The kits, which include five tests and instructions, will be available through nearly 2,000 pharmacies across Quebec starting December 20th.
