Markham Teen, Iman Vellani Set to Play Ms. Marvel a.k.a Kamala Khan

Marvel is casting Iman Vellani, a teenager from Markham, Ont. as Ms. Marvel in an upcoming series for Disney Plus.

Iman Vellani will play Marvel’s first Muslim superhero, Kamala Khan or Ms. Marvel, who is a 16-year-old Pakistani American teenager from Jersey City, New Jersey with shapeshifting abilities.

Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan will be the first Muslim superhero to appear in a Marvel show and in the Marvel Comic Universe.

“Speechless and excited! Wish me luck,” she posted to Instagram.

Vellani is not new to the world of movies as she was part of the TIFF Next Wave Committee, a group of “young film enthusiasts” who plans the TIFF Next Wave Festival for youth held annually during Family day weekend.

Just like Kamala Khan, Ms Vellani has Pakistani roots as her parents hails from the South Asian country.
