McDonald’s Canada has introduced a new limited-time Showdown menu inspired by hockey stars Auston Matthews and Connor McDavid.

The initiative marks a revival of the iconic “Showdown” campaign, last seen in 1997, and features a menu lineup reflecting the players’ on-ice rivalry.
Menu Highlights:
- Big Mac-David: A Double Big Mac with four beef patties, lettuce, pickles, onions, and the signature Big Mac sauce, paying tribute to Connor McDavid’s bold playstyle.
- Smoky Quarter Papi: A BBQ Quarter Pounder with smoky BBQ sauce, bacon, crispy onions, and cheese, reflecting Auston Matthews’ fiery on-ice energy.
- Spicy Junior Chirpy: A spicy buffalo chicken sandwich with lettuce and mayo, named for the light-hearted “chirps” in hockey culture.
- Hat Trick: A Triple Cheeseburger with three beef patties and three cheese slices, designed for those with a big appetite.
- Power Play Poutine: Fries topped with cheese curds, gravy, bacon, and a spicy maple drizzle for a sweet and spicy kick.
- Celly Sundae: A vanilla soft serve sundae with hot fudge or caramel and popping candy, celebrating hockey’s goal-scoring excitement.
The campaign showcases Matthews and McDavid in a friendly competition alongside a hockey-inspired menu that launches today at participating locations across Canada. A special Quebec version of the campaign features P.K. Subban adding commentary to the rivalry.
This campaign brings together hockey and food, with McDavid and Matthews offering their takes on the rivalry. “The Big Mac-David is headed all the way to the finals,” McDavid remarked. Matthews countered, saying, “The Smoky Quarter Papi isn’t afraid of a little extra sauce and big flavour.”
Fans can choose their favourite through the #97 or #34 menu items, and it is available for a limited time at McDonald’s restaurants and via the McDonald’s app or McDelivery.
