Olivia and Noah continue to dominate Alberta’s baby name charts, according to the province’s newly released 2025 list.

Olivia has now held the top spot for girls for 13 consecutive years, the longest streak on record.
For boys, Noah marks seven straight years at number one, tying Liam’s seven-year run from 2010 to 2016 and trailing only Ethan’s nine-year stretch between 2001 and 2009.
Rounding out the 2025 top five for girls are Amelia, Emma and Sophia (tied), followed by Charlotte and Violet. On the boys’ side, Theodore climbed to second place, its highest ranking ever, pushing Oliver to third. Henry, Jack and Lucas (tied) complete the top tier.
There were notable shifts this year. Amelia reclaimed second place, while Charlotte moved down to fourth. Ava dropped out of the girls’ top 10 for the first time in over a decade, landing at 22nd. Eliana entered the top 10 for the first time, ranking eighth with 104 babies. Chloe, Evelyn and Lily each reached the top 10 with 100 registrations.
Among boys, Liam slipped from third to seventh. Muhammad and James joined the top 10, while Levi remained the only repeat name in the lower half of the list.
Per the news release, pop culture and Alberta’s growing film and television industry influenced some choices, including names such as Khaleesi, Zendaya and Beckham. Others drew from Greek mythology, Artemis and Zephyr, or nature, with Azalea, Magnolia and Sparrow appearing. Names like Faith, Joy and Treasure reflected optimism, while Jasper and Rose nodded to provincial heritage.
In total, more than 52,000 births were registered in Alberta in 2025, with parents choosing over 14,500 unique names.
Dale Nally, Minister of Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction, said the province is proud to welcome its newest residents. Final numbers may shift slightly, as parents have up to one year to register a birth.
