Japanese retailer MUJI is opening its first store on Vancouver Island this week, bringing its range of home essentials, clothing and stationery to Victoria.

The new location at Mayfair Shopping Centre will celebrate its grand opening on October 24 and 25, 2026, with giveaways, activities and prizes from local businesses.
It will be MUJI’s fifth store in British Columbia and its third Canadian store opening within the past year.
What Will the New MUJI Store Sell?
The 3,379-square-foot store will carry MUJI Canada’s full product range, including kitchenware, home goods, everyday clothing, stationery and travel accessories.
Founded in Japan in 1980, MUJI is known for its minimalist approach to everyday products, with an emphasis on simple designs and practical uses.
Its name, Mujirushi Ryohin, roughly translates to “No-Brand, Quality Goods.” The retailer now operates in more than 30 countries and offers over 7,000 products.
Grand Opening Will Feature Local Victoria Businesses
Rather than focusing entirely on its own opening, MUJI is introducing a community partnership program called the MUJI Community Collective.
Ahead of the launch, Victoria residents were invited to nominate their favourite local businesses and organizations. MUJI then connected with selected businesses to include them in its opening celebrations.
Visitors can expect treats, prizes and activities involving these community partners during the October 24 and 25 weekend.
The partnerships are intended to continue beyond the opening, with MUJI planning to introduce similar initiatives at future Canadian locations.
“With our first store on Vancouver Island, we look forward to introducing more customers to MUJI while also celebrating the local businesses, organizations, and people that make Victoria unique,” said Richard Rappaport, President of MUJI North America.
