New Brunswick is celebrating the 34th Provincial French Pride Week from March 20 to 24.
Celebrated under the slogan Fleurir l’Acadie, unir la francophonie! (Flourishing Acadie, bringing the Francophonie together!), which emphasizes the importance of the Francophonie to the students of francophone schools and encourages them to take pride in it.
To choose the slogan, the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development invited students from the three francophone school districts to participate in the contest. Céline Mason’s slogan from École Régionale de Baie-Sainte-Anne was chosen for this year’s edition.
The week’s celebrations will be launched with a video featuring Grade 4 and Grade 7 students from École Arc-en-ciel in Oromocto performing the theme song for an awareness campaign called Allumez l’étincelle (Light the Spark). The organizing committee has also brought together several creations by around 20 Acadian artists, including video clips and other visual presentations for various age groups, that will be posted on the website dedicated to the week. The website also features a calendar of activities and events for the week.
March 20th is also celebrated as International Francophonie Day. New Brunswick has been a member of the International Organization of La Francophonie since 1977, along with 87 other states and governments. The city of Dieppe will be hosting the official celebrations of International Francophonie Day in the province.
