New Brunswick Urging Saint John River Valley Residents to Be Vigilant As River Levels Rise

The New Brunswick government is urging residents along Saint John River Valley to be vigilant due to rising river levels.

According to the news release, the community of Saint-Hilaire might surpass the flood stage this Saturday as Environment and Climate Change Canada is forecasting double-digit temperatures and light precipitation in the province’s north over the next five days.

The province is asking residents to keep watercraft off rivers and avoid the banks of waterways and be prepared for possible flooding by having a plan to evacuate and be self-sufficient for at least 72 hours.

Those along Saint John River are requested to keep abreast of the latest forecasts and public advisories by visiting the River Watch website, or by following the Emergency Measures Organization on Twitter and Facebook.

The province says River Watch officials are watching the upper Saint John River basin for ice jams as it might cause a rapid increase in water levels in affected areas.
