Visitors to Niagara Falls will soon have the chance to see the region from a perspective previously reserved for birds and drones. Opening on August 29 at the brink of Horseshoe Falls, Niagara Takes Flight introduces Ontario’s first flying theatre, an immersive experience designed to lift audiences into the air without ever leaving their seats.

Inside Table Rock Centre, riders will be suspended before a massive domed screen where sweeping drone footage showcases the Niagara River corridor through all four seasons.

The attraction suspends riders in gondola-style seats before a 17-metre-wide dome that curves around them. Motion, mist, wind, and scent effects combine with sweeping drone cinematography to create the sensation of gliding through the air.

Across a 56-kilometre journey, guests will drift above the Niagara River corridor, from the shoreline of Lake Ontario to the edge of Lake Erie.

More than just a spectacle of nature, the experience intertwines history and culture. Hundreds of participants helped stage scenes, including a recreation of the War of 1812 with period costumes, precise choreography, and pyrotechnics captured in a single take.

Footage spans landmarks such as the Niagara Parks Power Station, the Whirlpool, the Landscape of Nations Memorial, and Old Fort Erie.

The Waterfall Room traces the industrial milestones that transformed the Falls into a global icon. Finally, the Transporter prepares passengers for launch, channelling the power of water as they descend toward the theatre.

The project draws on international and local expertise. Development was awarded to Taiwan-based Brogent Technologies, known for theatres in Vancouver, Chicago, and Las Vegas. Creative direction comes from Rick Rothschild, a former Disney Imagineer behind Soarin’ Over California. Toronto’s FORREC led the thematic design, with fabrication by Great Lakes Scenic Studios of Burlington and construction by Merit Contractors Niagara.

Tickets are set at $29 for adults and $19 for children, with riders required to be at least 100 cm tall and under 300 lbs. The total experience runs about 35 minutes, with the flight itself lasting six.

Parking is available at Falls Parking (Lot A, 6635 Niagara Parkway) and Rapidsview Parking (Lot C, 4555 Upper Rapids Road). The attraction also includes accessibility options, such as an alternative film experience for those unable to board the ride.
