The exhibition, Oh Crap! Rethinking Human Waste will open on May 10th and run until January 5, 2025. Originally curated by the Musée de la civilisation in Québec, it delves into a resource frequently misunderstood and often disregarded—human waste.

Having received critical acclaim and significant popularity in Québec, the exhibition challenges societal norms and encourages a deeper understanding of what is commonly seen as waste. By portraying feces as an untapped resource with immense potential, the display aims to alter the public’s perception and stimulate a discussion about sustainable practices.

Per the news release, “Oh Crap!” is not just an exhibition but an experience that combines education with entertainment. It employs a diverse array of tools to engage its audience, including over 200 artifacts, immersive multimedia spaces, and interactive installations. These elements work in harmony to provide a comprehensive view of the subject through various lenses, such as microbiology, anatomy, history, culture, art, engineering, and environmental science.

The exhibition’s approach is both serious and playful, making it accessible to people of all ages. It invites visitors to embark on a journey that is as entertaining as it is thought-provoking. The ultimate goal is to spark a reflection on the significant environmental and social issues related to waste management and to encourage actions that could lead to a more sustainable future.

Visitors can learn about the impact of waste management disparities in communities around the globe, and the strategies that could be adopted to improve these conditions. Supported by Bonterra and manufactured by Kruger Products, “Oh Crap!” serves as a bold initiative to rethink the potential of what many consider merely waste, urging a collective effort towards enhanced sustainability.
