The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) seized 42 kilograms of suspected heroin from a tractor-trailer at the Peace Bridge port of entry, which connects Buffalo, New York, to Fort Erie, Ontario. The drugs were discovered during an inspection of the vehicle as it attempted to cross into Canada.
The seizure followed an intelligence-led investigation launched in December 2025 by the Border Enforcement Security Task Force (BEST), a multi-agency team that includes the OPP and CBSA. Investigators were tracking suspected drug trafficking activity involving the importation of heroin from the United States.
On Thursday, December 18, 2025, intelligence shared between the OPP, CBSA Intelligence, and the National Targeting Centre identified a tractor-trailer of interest. After being referred for further examination, a CBSA detector dog helped officers locate the concealed drugs inside the trailer.
In addition to the heroin, border officers seized the tractor, trailer, and two cellphones as offence-related property. All seized items were transferred to the custody of the OPP. Authorities estimate the street value of the drugs at $6.98 million.
The investigation is ongoing. Police are asking anyone with information related to drug trafficking or suspicious border activity to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, or the CBSA Border Watch Line at 1-888-502-9060.
