With plenty of outdoor adventures from canoeing to waterfall hikes, Algonquin Park offers a plethora of activities around the year.
The park has various entrances and the main entrance for those visiting from Toronto is the West Gate, which is located about 275 kms from downtown Toronto.
There are no direct public transportation options from Toronto. This is where the summer service of the Parkbus comes in.
Parkbus is a not-for-profit organization that carries travellers from major Canadian cities —including Toronto — to nearby parks. This service operates day trips, overnight trips, and seasonal routes so that you can choose the adventure that works best for you.
Parkbus operates day trips from Toronto to Elora Gorge, Christie Lake, Rockwood Conservation Area, Rattlesnake Point Conservation Area, Kelso Conservation Area, Rouge National Urban Park and Algonquin Park.
The organization has announced the 2023 summer schedule for Algonquin Park service.
The service will begin on June 23rd and will run on select weekends until Thanksgiving weekend.
You can hop on the bus from 34 Asquith or Major Mackenzie & Hwy 400 Carpool Lot. There are multiple Algonquin Park stops in addition to the West Gate Entrance:
- Lake Opeongo / Algonquin Outfitters
- Pog Lake / Whitefish Campground
- Lake of Two Rivers Storertage Store
- Canoe Lake / Portage Store
- West Gate
- Wolf Den Bunkhouse
- Oxtongue Lake – Ragged Falls
The service starts from Toronto at 07:30 AM and reaches the first stop at about 11:00 AM and returns to Toronto by 08:20 PM.
You are allowed to bring pets for an additional $10. Suitcases, backpacks, and bikes (email (info@parkbus.ca) in advance and reserve your spots) are also allowed.
