QS Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) has released the 20th edition of the QS World University Rankings, featuring 1,500 institutions across 104 locations. This ranking stands out as the only one that emphasizes employability and sustainability. The results were based on the analysis of 17.5 million academic papers and the opinions of over 240,000 academic faculty and employers.
Massachusetts Institute of Technology held its position as the top institution for the twelfth year, with the University of Cambridge and the University of Oxford trailing in second and third places, respectively. The latest methodology introduced new metrics: Sustainability, Employment Outcomes, and International Research Network.
The rankings witnessed a positive trend among African universities, with 75% improving their scores, and the Arab Region showcased increasing competitiveness. Asia’s highest-ranked university, the National University of Singapore, broke into the top-10 while Australia demonstrated global engagement with three universities in the top-20.
Other notable achievements included ETH Zurich maintaining its position as continental Europe’s best university, IIT Bombay emerging as India’s leader, and Universidade de São Paulo securing Latin America’s top spot. Finally, UC Berkeley achieved global recognition for sustainability, securing a position in the top-10.
In Canada, the University of Toronto emerged as the national leader with a world ranking of 21 and a score of 86.3. McGill University in Montreal follows closely behind with a world ranking of 30 and a score of 83.7. The University of British Columbia in Vancouver takes the 34th spot with a score of 81.5.
Other notable Canadian universities in the rankings include the University of Alberta, the University of Waterloo, and Western University. These rankings provide valuable insights for prospective students and researchers seeking quality education and academic opportunities.
