Quebec reported 5,043 new COVID-19 cases today breaking the highest daily case count reported by a province since the pandemic began in Canada.
The previous daily high of 4,812 was reported by Ontario last April.
Quebec also recorded 8 new deaths today.
There are currently 415 people in hospitals, an increase of 18 from yesterday. The count includes 59 new admissions. 41 people recovered enough to leave the province’s hospitals.
Of these, there are 88 people in intensive care, 6 more from the previous day with 10 new admissions and 4 releases.
Quebec has reported 495,337 cases and 11,650 deaths since the pandemic started.
To mitigate the rising number of COVID-19 cases, Quebec has shut down bars, cinemas, concert halls and gyms. Other restrictions include capacity limitation to 50 per cent and further reduction of private gathering limits.
