Red Deer’s Canyon Coaster Opens For Thrilling Summer Rides Down the Ski Hill

Red Deer is home to the largest non-mountain ski hill in Alberta, the Canyon Ski Resort.

Canyon Ski Resort

Starting tomorrow, the ski hill will feature a new attraction, the Canyon Coaster, a 1.35 km long monorail track where you can soar down the hill enjoying the view framed by Red Deer River.

This coaster has a luge track with a massive 440-foot vertical drop. The track, with its many wonderful twists and turns, will take you through the forest trails and the ski slopes of the Canyon Ski Resort.

Upon arriving at the resort, you will have to check in at the Ticket window. The ticket window is in the upper village area. You will have to walk to the village area from the parking lot. At the window, you will be given a wristband that will be later scanned before you ride the coaster. Before you sit on the coaster and set out exploring the canyon, the staff will give you some instructions about the ride.

The coaster can reach up to 40 km per hour. However, riders can control their speed using brakes that are installed in each coaster.

Apart from enjoying this exciting alpine coaster ride through the canyon, you can also enjoy a wonderful picnic in the park or a relaxing walk along the upper canyon ridge line. A dining area with floor-to-ceiling windows is currently under construction but will be opening soon.
