The move is aimed at providing outdoor enthusiasts with more areas of the province for recreational activities like fishing and hunting.

The lots are generally 0.4 hectares (1 acre) each and are organized in clusters or groups across the province, with 2,962 camp lots currently available. These lots generate $1.5 million in annual revenue for the government, and the annual rent for the lots is $400 for upland lots and $800 for waterfront lots.

According to the provincial website, the camp structures on these lots must be built according to the Building Code Administration Act and the National Building Code.   The lots which are available for a 10-year lease are only for recreational use, and commercial or principal residential use is prohibited. Lessees of these lots must adhere to the terms and conditions of their lease, including the payment of annual rental and property taxes, boundary line maintenance, and site rehabilitation. Gates are only allowed on the lot boundary.

Interested New Brunswickers can apply for a camp lot by filling out an application form available online.

Lot availability can be found on an online map, or by contacting the Crown Lands Branch at 1-888-312-5600.

“I am pleased that our government is making these lots available to outdoor enthusiasts throughout the province,” said Natural Resources and Energy Development Minister Mike Holland in a news release.

“New Brunswickers who enjoy the outdoors will now have a chance to access more areas of the province for hunting, fishing and other recreational activities.”

  • Would be perfect for RVs or travel trailers. Would also be nice if there was a box on the application you could check for upland or waterfront.

  • I think it would be much better as well to allow campers or tiny homes. Once the lease is up you leave and take your belongings with you.

  • It would be much better if camper trailers or tiny homes were allowed. Money is scarce only to leave a building there if you die or become unable to use it.
