The venue will be built on the former Downsview Airport Lands, now known as YZD Toronto, and will accommodate up to 50,000 attendees, making it the city’s largest purpose-built outdoor concert venue.
Live Nation Canada says the creation of Rogers Stadium is a response to the increasing demand for global artists to perform in Toronto, a major stop for international tours. The stadium aims to attract more world-class artists and performances, cementing the city’s reputation as a key market for live entertainment.

The venue will be temporary until the broader redevelopment project led by Northcrest Development takes shape at the 370-acre site, formerly Downsview Airport, which is being transformed into a series of new neighbourhoods over the next several decades. A repurposed two-kilometre pedestrian street, once the airport’s runway, will form the core of the development, becoming a key hub in the community.
The first neighbourhood being developed in YZD Toronto is The Hangar District, which will include new jobs, housing, retail spaces, amenities, and extensive green spaces and parks. This area is expected to generate significant employment and create a vibrant, mixed-use environment. The name YZD, referencing the former Downsview Airport’s call code, is a tribute to the site’s industrial heritage.
