Released annually, this year’s special edition coin keeps the spirit of remembrance alive beyond the solemnity of November 11.

The coin pays tribute to over 2,300,000 individuals who have served in the country’s armed forces throughout its history, including more than 118,000 who lost their lives in service.

The meaning of the new design:

This year’s design, created by Canadian artist Anna Bucciarelli, features the iconic red poppy—a symbol of remembrance that dates back to the First World War. Special features of the coin include selective colouring to emphasize the red poppies and frosted engravings that add depth to the design.

The poppy is depicted in three stages of bloom in various shades of red, representing a different facet of military service.

The central poppy, shown in full bloom, stands for the strength and resilience of those who serve or have served.

A second poppy, with its petals drooping, honours those who have fallen in the line of duty. A third, unbloomed poppy bud speaks to hope and renewal even in the face of loss and tragedy. The poppies are set against stylized leaves and connected by a ribbon inscribed with “CANADA” and the year “2024.”

The obverse features the effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, crafted by Steven Rosati.

How to buy:

Priced at $114.95 CAD, the coin is crafted from 99.99% pure silver, weighs 31.39 grams, and has a face value of $20 and comes packaged in a black clamshell with a black beauty box.
