Enter 2024 with new ideas and answers to the age-old question of “where should we go to eat?”
Calgary had a large number of new restaurant openings over 2023 which offer somewhere new to eat for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, or somewhere new to sip.
Among those new restaurants that opened last year in Calgary are cafes, bars and pubs, casual takeout spots, upscale restaurants, and dessert shops. These are all new restaurants that are local to Western Canada and Calgary, too!
The Continental Restaurant

Greedy Donut
Greedy Donut opened in Calgary to some huge success. The donut shop’s specialty is handmade cream-filled donuts, with many types of cream and donut flavours available. Take advantage of their open hours of seven days a week for these sweet treats. A few of their popular filling flavours include lemon, PB&J, or rotating seasonal holiday flavours.

VietBites
Viet Bites opened in Calgary’s Bridgeland neighbourhood in 2023 with a delectable menu of snacks and appetizers, bowls, and mains. Viet Bites focus on offering a fresh selection of authentic Vietnamese cuisine. They also created a menu of sweet drinks, both hot and cold, to enjoy with the meals. Delmonico
Delmonico opened this year as a western-fusion restaurant with a menu for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Each of those menus includes a variety North American classics with Delmonico’s own flare and twist. Delmonico’s stylish new 17th Ave dining room is a warm and inviting place to enjoy any meal, after work drinks, or their Happy Hour menu.

Oneway Seoul Pocha
Authentic Korean street food is now a lot easier to find in Calgary thanks to the opening of Oneway Seoul Pocha. The restaurant offers those authentic dishes with the chef’s own modern twist. All dishes are created with the freshest ingredients while Oneway’s indoor atmosphere will transport you straight to the streets of South Korea.

Magpie
Calgary’s East Village welcomed the grand opening of the new Magpie cocktail bar this past summer. Their list of spirited drinks seems endless, and Magpie will rotate their menu of craft cocktails each season. Along with drinks, Magpie offers a small selection of shareable snacks, rolls, and banh mi.

Peak Pizza
Peak Pizza is now open in Calgary’s Richmond neighbourhood. All of their pizzas are made with a signature sourdough crust and often come with great deals for multiple pizzas. Peak Pizza serve a lot more on the menu, too.

Milpa
One of 17th Avenue’s newest restaurant additions brings authentic Mexican dining to Calgary. Milpa opened in the area with their Mexican-Colonial inspired dining room and an atmosphere meant to make visitors feel right at home. Milpa’s menu was created with the help of their highly trained and experienced head chef. That menu includes a variety of smaller plates, sweets, craft cocktails, and port or sherry.

Clay Pot Asian Food Kitchen
The new Clay Pot & Asian Food Kitchen are now open in Calgary to offer a refined Asian food experience. The name of the restaurant is quite literal, as Clay Pot Asian Food Kitchen’s are served at the restaurant in clay pots or on clay plates. The restaurant offers a take-out menu, too, which will offer a different experience.

Honjin Izakaya
Honjin Izakaya opened in a convenient Calgary location across the street from Chinook Mall. Since their grand opening, Honjin Izakaya have steadily grown in popularity over their authentic Japanese cuisine and dish varieties. These include sushi, sashimi, meat skewers, rice bowls, and the Honjin special noodle bowls.

Satsuki
Satsuki is one of the city’s newest sushi spots to have opened in 2023. The Japanese restaurant is in Kensington with a menu made up of the finest and freshest of seasonal ingredients. So, each time you go to Satsuki, you may encounter a new and different menu. Plus, all items on the menu are made daily from scratch. Along with rolls and appetizers, Satsuki also offers main entrée combos, dessert, and an Omakase experience, or chef’s tasting menu.

Sinatra’s Pizza
Perfect pizzas aren’t always easy to come by, but Sinatra’s Pizzeria in Calgary is making the adventure of finding a perfect slice a bit easier. Sinatra’s opened in 2023 in Calgary to the delight of pizza-lovers of all kinds: those who love meat pizzas, vegetarians, and for those looking for something new. Jam’s Diner
There will be a few different menus to try when visiting Calgary’s Jam’s Diner for the first time. Visit for Sunday brunch and take advantage of Jam’s Diner serving brunch the entire day. There are everyday menus as well for both breakfast and dinner. Plus, Jam’s extend their diner vibes to their drink menu with adult milkshakes, adult floats, and classic craft cocktails. Jam’s Diner also sells a variety of jams and hot sauces to take home.

Avitus
Enjoy this new and authentic French wine bar experience in Calgary and inside a warm and intimate atmosphere. Salt & Brick
Salt & Brick is a Kelowna-based restaurant who extended into Calgary in 2023. The second Salt & Brick location opened in downtown Calgary last November with the same theme as the Kelowna location: offering a culinary adventure through fresh and local ingredients. This is why they only provide a sample menu on their website; Salt & Brick’s menu is consistently changing and being updated to provide diners with a new adventure for each visit.

My Little Italia
My Little Italia, which opened in 2023 in Calgary’s Mission neighbourhood, are one of the city’s new go-to locations for handmade pasta. Pasta is at the core of My Little Italia’s menu alongside a small selection of main entrees and desserts. This is a chance to try pasta many different ways, and in ways that you may have never thought to try. My Little Italia also have a gluten-free penne option available as a substitute in any dish.

Bar Chouette
Bar Chouette is a new and upscale cocktail bar with French-inspired menu items and décor. The inviting and vibrant restaurant offers a dinner menu and a drink menu. For dinner, choose between small plates to share, large plates, raw appetizers like smoked prawns and steak tartar, or the select desserts. As a wine and cocktail spot, Bar Chouette also provides a hearty selection of cocktails, wines, and international beers.

Tubby’s
Tubby’s offers something decadent yet casual for your next dinner in Calgary. Tubby’s advertises itself to simply be a bar with hot dogs on the menu. However, these are some decadent hot dogs large enough to be a meal on their own. Plus, Tubby’s offer their hot dogs and sausages packaged and frozen to take home.

Primary Colours
Primary Colours aim to be the new neighbourhood cafe in Calgary for casual social time, great coffee, and mouth-watering menu items. The upscale café takes reservations for their afternoon brunch and evening dinner menus. And their drinks and desserts menus are available all day. The dessert menu is not to be missed at Primary Colours, so try not to fill up on their savoury bites. All of the pastries and desserts are made fresh and by hand each day.

Ora Bread & Wine
The west side of Downtown Calgary welcomed the opening of Ora Bread & Wine in 2023 to the delight of brunchers and breakfast lovers across the city. Or Bread & Wine offer a unique and fresh spin on brunch overall. Enjoy the Italian-inspired small snacks and plates, sandwiches, brunch and eggs benedict, or the Morning Wine menu feature early-bird cocktails and spirits.

Sushi AOI
It was a good year for sushi and Calgary in 2023. That is thanks to restaurants like Sushi AOI, now open in the Beltline neighbourhood. Their online presence is small for now and includes a link to ordering through Skip. However, the restaurant is open for in-person dining, too! Visit them to try the much talked-about tempura appetizers with meat and vegetables, or the huge variety of sushi rolls, nigiri, and sashimi.

Tiger K
Tiger K, new to Calgary as of last fall, is a place for socializing, celebrating, and of course, tasting. They offer Korean soul food through a gourmet and elevated dining experience. Korean soul food usually involves a wide array of seafoods or grilled meats, hearty appetizers, or soothing soups. The Tiger K menu includes all of these classic dishes with their own flare, plus a wide selection of craft cocktails.
