Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, is a small town roughly 77 km west of Red Deer. With terrific mountain views, this is pretty town offers plenty of opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors.

Rocky Mountain House National Historic Site

Rocky Mountain House National Historic Site is a place full of exhibits, four forts, archaeological remains, and Metis demonstrations. This is an exciting way to learn about the history of the fur trade which helped to shape our nation. For additional fees patrons can enjoy interpretive programs or even stay the night at the fort!

Pine Hills Golf Club

Pine Hills Golf Club is the epitome of casual golf. Situated amid 397 acres, this golf course provides breathtaking views and a casual atmosphere you won’t find anywhere else. Canyon Creek Golf and Camping

Canyon Creek is a golf course ideal for everyone–from beginners to old pros. Each hole has three elevated tees, allowing golfers to choose the one best suited for their personal skill level. The entire course should take no more than 4 hours to complete. With the beautiful scenery and option to stay and camp at Canyon Creek Golf course, you can stay for a few hours or a few days, whatever you prefer!

There are many beautiful provincial parks in Alberta, and Crimson Lake Provincial Park is definitely one of them. Rocky Museum

The Rocky Museum presents the history of pioneers who homesteaded in the area. It presents the past, where people worked in lumber camps and sawmills, when children attended a one-room school. Check out the 1917 Amherst player piano. Tour around the 100 year old Meadows Forestry cabin, pretend to be a student in the one roomed school, and be sure to check out the Killico General Store. There is lots of history to discover at Rocky Museum.

Ram Mountain Horseback Tours

Ram Rides South Ram Outfitters provides a variety of Ram River Tours. You can choose to stay at the ranch for a short horseback ride, or go on trail rides for half or full days. With 11 cabins, almost 400 RV sites, swimming pools, and hot tubs, it is no wonder that Wilderness Village is rated as a Five Star Coast to Coast Resort. Members of Wilderness Village get up to 180 days a year of use with their membership. This fee also covers RV storage, showers, firewood, and everything you need to make camping easy and stress free. Public camping is also available.

Oval Skating

Every winter Rocky Mountain House is home to a 400 meter skating oval that is fun for all on a warm winter day. This is a bit different than a traditional skating rink, and as such is a nice change from the usual. Meant only for skating, skaters don’t have to battle with hockey players for puck free ice time.

Horburg Provincial Recreation Area

Horburg Provincial Recreation Area is a great place to camp, canoe, kayak, fish, and picnic. It also provides access to over 80 km of trails perfect for hiking, off highway vehicles, biking, or even horseback riding. The views in this recreation area are absolutely stunning, if you ever have the chance it is definitely worth checking out.

A great place to go fishing in the winter and the summer, Jackfish Lake Provincial Area is also so much more. Canoeing, kayaking, biking, hiking, atving, boating, and camping are all great options of things to do at Jackfish Lake Provincial Recreation Area.

JKL Trail Rides & Petting Zoo

JKL Trail Rides & Petting Zoo is exactly what it says it is. A place where people can go on trail rides of all lengths, from one hour to one day, as well as a petting zoo with all sorts of animals to pet and enjoy. Of course, the view of the Rocky Mountains only adds to the excitement!

Siffleur Falls

Siffleur Falls is a roughly 4km hike (to the first waterfall and another 4 to the third ) that features a beautiful waterfall. This is an easy hike, making it perfect for a fun, family adventure. This is also a hike that is ideal year-round, and checking out a waterfall in the winter is definitely an activity that should be on everyone’s bucket list.
