Anna Rail
Anna Rail is a visual artist from the Acadian Peninsula who has been specializing in contemporary batik for nearly twenty years. Anna Rail discovered batik on paper by chance, even though she was already familiar with the traditional Indonesian textile technique recognized by UNESCO. What could be interpreted as a rivalry between watercolor paint and wax (as resists) turns into a collaborative dance at the end of the process, allowing the free wax to create its own patterns. Art Opening – Atefeh Baradaran
Opening of the art exhibit Neither This Nor That by artist Atefeh Baradaran at the Capitol Theatre Art Gallery happens on March 6th. Neither This Nor That is a selection of paintings from a growing body of work in which the artist activates an imaginary interaction between the painted image and the wooden substrate. The painting and the panel appear to exist independently from one another and in so doing, break free from the encasement of the rectangular frame. In a sense, each painting is a still shot from that action, that liberation. In these paintings, minimal 3-dimensional geometric designs are painted on irregular cuts of plywood while leaving areas of wood exposed. Details
