As spring ushers in its warm embrace, the Dumfries Maples sugarbush, a cherished sugarbush operated by Nathan and Jane Scott, is beckoning visitors to immerse themselves in the sugarbush, an experience that promises a sweet communion with nature.
From the art of making syrup to the creation of maple butter, candy, and cream, the Scott family shares their passion for maple in every sweet treat they produce.
You can enjoy homemade pancake breakfasts in a cedar log cookhouse, syrup-making demonstrations, and the chance to walk or snowshoe through scenic trails, all while enjoying the company of local wildlife and the breathtaking River Valley.
The menu at Dumfries Maples offers a variety of breakfast options, including pancakes, breakfast sandwiches, and specials served with pure maple syrup. Options range from simple pancakes and sausage or bacon meals to more elaborate dishes like omelettes with homemade toast. Gluten-free and child-friendly options are available. Side orders include baked beans, biscuits, and homemade brown bread, all complemented by a selection of beverages. For a sweet touch, maple taffy is available at the sugar shack or with meals.
Adding to the experience is a new guided tour, “From Sap to Syrup,” which delves into the history of maple syrup and the area itself. Participants can savour homemade biscuits with maple butter in a cozy, owner-built cabin, culminating in the quintessential pleasure of maple taffy on snow.
Breakfast is available all weekends, and special activities like Tours and Taffy on the Snow are scheduled for Saturdays and Sundays. Trails are ready for exploration, with equipment available for rent. Pet owners can bring their leashed dogs along for the journey.
For those planning a visit in larger groups, reservations for tours and meals are essential to ensure a memorable experience.
