Enjoy spring sunshine in Lethbridge!

Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden

The southern Alberta city is one of the ‘warmer’ spring spots in the province and it is an invitation to explore the river valley, the forested trails, and the city as a whole.

The city is starting outdoor programs and events again, while the natural side of Lethbridge becomes easier to explore. Plus, there are a few attractions within a short drive of the city to explore on your trip.

Hike around the Helen Schuler Nature Centre

There are things to see inside and outside the Helen Schuler Nature Centre in Lethbridge. The indoor pavilion and visitors’ centre is filled with interactive and educational exhibits and has a community art gallery. You can also travel up to the building’s living roof and patio for awesome views of the High Level bridge. There are three main trails outside in the river valley, which create about 3km, or 30 minutes of walking while watching for wildlife.

On the second Saturday in June, you can join for an outdoor festival by Helen Schuler Nature Centre that features fun, free, play-based activities by local community organizations.

When: Year-round

Where: 300 Indian Battle Rd

How much: Admission is by donation.

Spring at Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden

Head to one of the famous gardens in Alberta around Victoria Day weekend to enjoy spring blooms. Explore the garden when it is filled with beautiful crabapple blooms. Remember to return before summer begins to see peonies in the Prairie Garden.

When: Opens May long weekend

Where: Downtown Lethbridge

Plan a City-wide Bike Ride

The city of Lethbridge is planned, in part, for cyclists. This means there are urban routes and more natural river valley routes, which can get you across the entire city. The city even has a bike boulevard on 7th Ave, where motorists are discouraged from using the road with low speed limits and diversions.

The city has an interactive map that lets you plan your trip around natural paths, multi-use paved paths, and city streets. You can also follow nearly the entire river valley, which runs through the centre of Lethbridge, on a bicycle.

Taco Fest

Taco Fest returns to Lethbridge’s Downtown Festival Square to kick off the 2026 festival season with two vibrant outdoor days of food, culture, and entertainment. Friday features a high-energy Lucha Libre night with live wrestling, music, and drinks.

Saturday shifts to a Latin Fiesta and Family Day with dance performances, mariachi, games, and authentic tacos. With food trucks, cocktails, and activities for all ages, it’s a lively celebration of community, flavour, and fun.

When: May 1 & 2, 2026.

Where: Festival Square (600 3 Ave S)

Jane’s Walk

Jane’s Walk is a global festival of free, community-led walking conversations inspired by Jane Jacobs, held each May.

In Lethbridge, the 2026 event highlights local stories through guided experiences, including a river valley history walk, biodiversity-focused garden tours, a Garry Station neighbourhood exploration, and a downtown theatre walk tracing 140 years of culture.

The weekend also features public art bus tours, offering a creative way to explore the city while connecting residents through shared history and place.

When: May 1to 3, 2026.

Where: Various Locations

Visit the Galt Museum & Archives

Lethbridge’s Galt Museum & Archives house a combination of temporary and permanent exhibits. There are also classes, workshops, and events scheduled for the spring season.

When: Tuesday-Saturday

Where: 502 1 Street South

How much:$9.95 + tax, per person

Sip your way through a Brewery Tour

Lethbridge is home to two local microbreweries where you can get a taste for the local beer flavours.

Theoretically Brewing is on the south side of Highway 3 and is known to host monthly events and live entertainment. Spectrum Ale Works, on the north side of Highway 3, also has its weekly lineup of events and a taproom where you can enjoy all the brews.

Dining in Downtown Lethbridge

Can’t make it for Foodie Fest in Lethbridge this year? No problem! At any time of year, you can find a large array of local dining options around the downtown area and more. A stop at these local eateries can be conveniently coupled with a shopping trip or used for a picnic in the park.

  • MAMA LA on the west side of Lethbridge offers a refreshing selection of Vietnamese Cuisine.
  • The Italian Table is an award-winning restaurant in Lethbridge with an excellent selection of cocktails.
  • El Greco Restaurant in east Lethbridge is a perfect breakfast and coffee spot, but it also offers a main lunch and dinner menu.

Walk with the Hawks at the Alberta Birds of Prey Foundation

If you visit the Alberta Birds of Prey Foundation, south of Lethbridge, you can walk with Hawks and take part in other educational and interactive activities. The Hawk Walk is one of the must-do activities, along with walks around the aviary ponds, and watching the flying demonstrations. These birds are all the more incredible when viewed and appreciated up-close.

When: opens May 2026

Where: 2124 16 Ave., Coaldale
