Remembrance Day Commemoration Services

Field of Crosses Memorial Project

 

There is a park reserved along Calgary’s Memorial Drive for 3,000 white crosses, which are displayed each year on November 1st and removed on November 12th. Each cross is inscribed with the name, rank, regiment, date of death and age at death of a Southern Alberta soldier killed in action.

At sunrise each morning from November 1 to November 10, there is a flag-raising ceremony at the Field of Crosses, including a bugler and a piper. At sunset, the flags are lowered.

Night of Lights – November 10th –  Candles are placed in front of each cross and burn from Sunset until Sunrise the next day.

Road Closure Nov. 11 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m:

  • There will be a full road closure of Memorial Drive between 4 St N.E. and 10 St N.W. for the Field of Crosses Remembrance Day event.

Canadian Legacy Project’s Annual Stand Up For Vets Comedy Showcase

The Canadian Legacy Project proudly presents the 3rd Annual Stand Up For Vets—an unforgettable evening of laughter, community, and purpose in support of our Canada’s Veterans as they transition to civilian life. The show will feature 5 fabulous Canadian comedians and will be followed by an afterparty at the Jack Singer Concert Hall lobby.

Hanger Flight Museum Ceremony

The helicopter landing area behind The Hangar Flight Museum was once a parade square during the Second World War as part of the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan.

The museum will be open for viewing after the ceremony from 12:00 pm until 5:00pm with admission by donation.  Details

Remembrance Day at the Military Museum

 

Please join us at The Military Museums this November 11th for our Remembrance Day ceremony.

After the ceremony, the public can lay a wreath at the Eternal Flame monument. Staff will be on hand to provide an escort to and from the monument.

The Museum will be open after the service. Admission is by donation.

Calgary Highlanders Remembrance Day Parade

The annual ceremony includes the Calgary Highlanders Parade. The Calgary Highlanders will have a Military parade using 4th St SW between 12th and 13th Ave SW. It will be held at the Memorial Park area around the Cenotaph.  Details

CPKC Remembrance Day Ceremony

Canadian Pacific Kansas City Railway will pay tribute to all veterans who courageously answered the call of duty, and to the more than 33,000 CPKC employees who have served, at its Remembrance Day ceremony.

This Remembrance Day, CPKC will remember those who have served on both sides of the border with a moment of silence at 11 a.m. MT, followed by a train whistle at 11:02 a.m. local time where it’s safe to do so.

Flags on CPKC property in Canada will be lowered to half-mast in honour of their service.

Remembrance Day at Studio Bell

Join us for a special service commencing at 10:40 am featuring Central Alberta Chamber Players and world-class bagpiper Bill Hawes.

The ceremony will conclude with a screening of the short documentary film Tattoo 67, showing highlights from the military tribute during Canada’s centennial celebrations.

Explore five levels of Canadian music heritage after the ceremony, and stick around for the 1:00 pm screening of Bye Bye Blues — a moving story of love, resilience, and music during wartime.

Please join the members, veterans, and Regimental family of the King’s Own Calgary Regiment for this year’s Remembrance Day Parade.  The band and guard will step off from the Weaselhead Natural Area parking lot on the West side of the park. Spectators are encouraged to arrive by 10:30 a.m.   .  The ceremony includes speeches and public addresses, along with wreath laying and a short ceremony in conjunction with military personnel.   Originally named Camp Sarcee in 1915, Battalion Park commemorates the soldiers who trained in Calgary for the trench warfare of World War I.
