The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, has announced the details of how Canada will mark the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III.
As a constitutional monarchy, the King is Canada’s Head of State. The upcoming Coronation of His Majesty, King Charles III, on May 6, 2023, is an event of great significance to Canada.
A ceremony will be held in Ottawa on May 6, to mark the occasion and celebrate His Majesty’s reign as King of Canada.
The ceremony will be attended by dignitaries from the Table of Precedence of Canada, including members of the King’s Privy Council for Canada, eminent Canadians, and individuals with ties to causes dear to His Majesty. It will include speeches, artistic performances, and special unveilings, providing a fitting tribute to the special relationship that His Majesty has had with Canada for over 50 years.
“His Majesty has a long history and a special relationship with Canada, and we look forward to celebrating his Coronation in May. In addition to the ceremony in Ottawa, I invite Canadians to take part in events and activities that will take place in their communities to mark this important occasion. Together, we look to the future and the continued betterment of the Commonwealth and its people,” said Justin Trudeau in a statement.
Canadians across the country will also have the opportunity to mark the Coronation of King Charles III.
Activities will be organized at Rideau Hall on May 6 and 7, where they will be able to visit the Residence of the Governor General and learn more about the Canadian Crown. In addition, lieutenant-governors and territorial commissioners will invite Canadians to take part in celebrations and initiatives in their communities throughout May.
To further commemorate the occasion, federal buildings in Canada’s Capital Region and landmarks across the country are invited to light up in emerald green on May 6 and 7, 2023. This National illumination initiative will be conducted in the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth nations on May 7 as well.
The Official Canadian Portrait of King Charles III is also being refreshed, and more information on its availability and distribution will be shared in due course.
