The chip truck is a low-cost, mobile microchip clinic that offers a microchip, pet licence and rabies vaccine for $25 per cat and $35 per dog. Pet owners who already have a valid City of Toronto pet licence pay $10 for a microchip and/or rabies vaccine.
Provincial regulations require dog and cat owners to have their animals immunized against rabies when their pet is three months or older. In addition to receiving a rabies vaccine, animals at the chip truck are microchipped by a Toronto Animal Services veterinarian. Registered microchips give owners the best chance to find their pet if it runs away or gets lost. When the microchip is scanned, a unique identifier number linked directly to the owner appears.
Animal shelter staff, veterinarians and animal care and control officers routinely look for microchips to return lost pets to their owners quickly. Toronto Animal Services’ veterinarians place microchips in all cats, dogs and rabbits that are adopted through the City’s shelters. [adisnerter block=”4″]
Pet owners who want to use the chip truck:
- Must have their dog on leash, while cats must be contained in a pet carrier.
- Pet owners are asked to bring a piece of photo identification that includes their address.
- Attendees can fill out the form in advance and bring it to an event. The form to print and fill out is available via the City’s website.

MORE INFORMATION
Good Morning!
I just got a puppy about 2 weeks ago, he had his first round of shots already. He’s due for his second round in about 1 week. However I’m interested in getting him microchipped and licensed as well. I’m on ODSP, and I was curious if there was a discounted rate for people on low income, and seniors. Also, do you give the vaccination shots that puppies need? Or just rabies shots?
