Events Description

The Tour de Bowness Street Festival & Bike Race, is an annual FREE Family Fun celebration of our historic community of Bowness in northwest Calgary.

Hosted by the Mainstreet Bowness Business Improvement Area and Bow Cycle, our exciting street festival has been a partnership event between the Bowness Community Association, Bow Cycle and the businesses within the BIA since 2011 when Bowness celebrated its 100th birthday. This event has been so well received by the community that it has become an annual “street party” to celebrate the vibrant and historical Bowness, “Bownesians” and visitors to our great community have come to enjoy! Since its inception, attendance has been steadily growing and we have no doubt this year will be a GREAT year!

We have great food trucks lined up to bring you the best “festival food” Calgary has to offer! Local restaurants offer great patios and host specials to help you enjoy your festival day with us. Live music is always a great way to throw a party! Live, local bands are scheduled to entertain you all day on our Tim Hortons Stage. You will probably find yourself tapping your toes to the sounds of our very own Doug Waite and his band who will be entertaining you throughout the day in the crowd. Art is another way for a community to come together. Local artists are available to get you in that creative mood while activities for your kids keep your little ones engaged and excited. We encourage as many local vendors and artisans to participate in our annual street festival. Promoting local talent is a positive way to build our community to be stronger and healthier – and there is lots of creative talent in Bowness!

Our neighbourhood prides itself on an enduring sense of being while shaped by the physical surroundings of the river, woods and valley. This year, the 20th anniversary of the Tour de Bowness cycling race, hosted by Bow Cycle, sees cyclists compete in a 7-turn circuit that loops from Bowness Rd. and around the streets of the community. Racers reach up to speeds of 70 kms/hr during this intense criterium. The Tour de Bowness boasts the largest amateur cycling event in Alberta where competitors come from all over to compete against each other in a challenging, yet welcoming environment – all day, alongside the street festival!
