Two More Weekends of License Free Fishing Next Year in Ontario

imageOntario’s Government is adding two more weekends of license free fishing days in 2019. The existing days are the 3-day Family Day weekend in February, and a full 9-days in July, which coincides with National Fishing Week.

In addition to the existing license free fishing days, Ontarians and visitors can fish license free during the weekends of Mother’s Day and Father’s Day in 2019.

Participants fishing without a license must fish under the Conservation fishing license limits which are set out in the current Ontario Recreational Fishing Regulations Summary. With the exception of the licensing requirement, Ontario fishing regulations, fees and limits continue to apply during license-free days.

John Yakabuski, Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry also announced today that $2 service fee increase will removed and fishing licence fee increases for all Ontario residents will be frozen.

“Recreational fishing is a $2.2 billion industry in Ontario,” said Minister Yakabuski. “People come from all over the world to experience what this beautiful province has to offer, including fishing in our many lakes, rivers and streams, and we are helping the people of this province and their families do the same.”
