If you find yourself in Richmond before Labour Day, acres of golden sunflowers are waiting for you at 12900 Steveston Highway.

This year’s Richmond Sunflower Festival is in full bloom, with more than 20 varieties, from sky-high giants to intricate, smaller blooms, spread across expansive walking trails.

Now spread over 20 acres, the fields hold more than 90 types of flowers, from sky-high sunflowers to rows of dahlias, gladiolas, and other seasonal colour.

Paths wind through the fields, wide enough for strollers and easy to navigate on foot. You can stop at rustic props and flower-laden wagons set up for photos, or catch a wagon ride that rumbles straight into the heart of the bloom. Between walks, lemonade stands, mini-doughnut stalls, and rotating food trucks offer a break in the shade.

Thursdays bring something quieter: yoga sessions among the flowers, followed by tastings at Country Vines Estate Winery next door.

If you prefer a different kind of souvenir, Richmond Country Farms Market, right by the grounds, sells fresh corn, berries, and other summer produce well into the evening.

The gates open weekdays at noon and weekends at 10:00 a.m., with the last entry at 7:00 p.m. Admission is $14 plus GST for adults on weekdays and $17 on weekends, while children aged 3–12 and seniors pay $12 or $15, depending on the day. Kids under two are free, and all tickets are sold on-site—cash, debit, and credit accepted.

You’ll want sturdy shoes for the grassy, uneven paths, along with sunscreen, a hat, and a water bottle. Most visitors stay between one and two hours, but with the sunflowers glowing in the late-day light, you may find it hard to leave.
