Sweeten your café visits this winter with Calgary’s best hot chocolate.

There is no single way to make hot chocolate, and these local cafes/restaurants prove you can create a tasty winter drink with a number of flavours and ingredients. And if you prefer something simple, there are options for a classic cup of hot chocolate, too!
These Calgary cafes provide not only warm drinks but also cozy places to enjoy them while the snow falls outside. And many of these locations offer food menus with plenty of other sweet treats like fresh baked goods, ice cream and gelato, or breakfast pastries. You may also recognize these locations as past YYC Hot Chocolate Fest contestants and winners.
Kristi YYC
Start with a basic but delicious hot chocolate from this Calgary Cafe and work your way through Kristi’s other hot chocolate creations over the winter. Kristi also makes a caramel flavoured, and a polar flavoured (peppermint) hot chocolate. For a limited time, you may also treat yourself to their Winter Specialty menu that includes Santa’s Spiced Hot Chocolate, or Gingerbread Hot Chocolate. Hungry too? Kristi has an assortment of tasty lunches, smoothies, and breakfast items.

Hexagon Boardgame Café
You can rely on the Hexagon Boardgame Café to keep you and your group entertained with their huge library of tabletop games. You can also count on the café to keep you warm and cozy for your winter game sessions. Their beverage menu includes all the warm classics like hot chocolate, chai tea lattes, cappuccino, and espresso. Hexagon also feature a winter drink menu with treats like the peppermint fog, peppermint mocha, or spike hot apple cider.

Euphoria Café
Calgary’s local Euphoria Café source all its offerings from fellow local producers! From this, Euphoria can offer an array of tasty hot or cold café drinks, sweets, sandwiches, and other snacks. Their hot chocolate is a must-try: the café uses melted chocolate to create a warming, sweet, and soothing winter beverage. Along with a couple of YYC Hot Chocolate Fest awards, Euphoria’s hot chocolate was also named by the Food Network as one of the 10 best cups of cocoa in Canada.

The Odyssey Café & Station Market
You can select from several different warm café drinks at The Odyssey, including a limited-time-only hot chocolate flavour. The café is closed until January 8th, but by then, Calgary should be nice and cold. And this will call for a cup of The Odyssey’s Earl Grey Hot Chocolate, available until the end of January. Pair this with a small snack like the grilled cheese sandwich, or avocado toast.

Café Beano
The menu of hot drinks from Calgary’s Café Beano is always in flux, so their drinks will change according to the season. They offered a peppermint hot chocolate over the holidays and could have something special in store for the rest of winter. They serve an assortment of baked goods and snacks you can add to your order.

The Bullet Coffee House
The hot chocolate from The Bullet Coffee House is a tasty cup filled with steamed chocolate milk, then topped with real whipped cream. This is a drink which pairs perfectly with Calgary’s cold winters, and with the café’s fresh baked treats. They offer a few winter features to keep you cozy, like a Gingerbread Latte, or Warm your Soul Spicy Mocha.

Cornerstone Music Café
You can order a classic cup of hot chocolate from the Cornerstone Music Café. Or, you can add a bit of spice and opt for a Mayan hot cocoa, made with cinnamon and cayenne pepper. Both hot chocolate options are perfect for the café’s warm and inviting environment, where you can enjoy live music, and a full meal.

Café Jindo
Warm up with a classic and simple cup of hot chocolate that is sweetened to perfection from Café Jindo this winter. Their cozy café and atmosphere are enough for an escape from the cold. But you can enhance your visit with the hot chocolate, and one of the café’s waffle dishes, or their handhelds. Hurry in to try their winter features, too, or their January pour over coffee menu.

Monogram Coffee
The winter specials from Monogram Coffee are available at all of their Calgary locations! The winter menu even includes a special hot chocolate creation. For a limited time, you can taste Monogram’s sesame oat hot chocolate, made with dark chocolate, sesame, cinnamon, vanilla, and honey. Their other holiday features include an egg nogg matcha latte, and a spiced butter caramel latte.

Amato Gelato
Now, this isn’t any ordinary hot chocolate from Calgary’s Amato Gelato. As the shop’s name suggests, you can expect a scoop of gelato in your cup of warm and creamy hot chocolate. This is arguably better than marshmallows and can be paired with some frozen gelato to take home. Along with hot chocolate, they also serve classic café drinks like espresso, tea, or lattes. The Italian Hot Chocolate Float is only available at their Kensington location.
