Alberta Sees High Interprovincial Migration Population Growth

Statistics Canada’s third-quarter population estimates released yesterday prove that Alberta is Calling campaign initiated by Jason Kenny government was very successful.

 

According to the release, Alberta gained 19,285 people due to interprovincial migration in the third quarter of 2022, while Ontario lost 11,581 people and British Columbia, 4,799 people.

Alberta gained 8,645 interprovincial migrants from Ontario, 5,960 from B.C., 1,503 from Manitoba and 1,036 from Saskatchewan.

33, 297 international migrants also settled in Alberta.

Alberta added a total of 58,203 residents resulting in the highest single-quarter population growth rate in more than 40 years.

Minister of Finance Travis Toews and Minister of Jobs, Economy and Northern Development Brian Jean said in a statement, “Alberta’s economy has momentum and we remain focused on investment attraction, job creation and diversification as we continue to be the economic engine of Canada.”

British Columbia’s reduction in population due to interprovincial migration was the highest for almost one decade.

Nova Scotia and New Brunswick also saw a net increase in population due to interprovincial migration this quarter at 2,298 and 1,510, respectively.

As per Statistics Canada’s estimate, Canada’s population is now over 39 million, or an estimated 39,292,355 as of October 1, 2022.

This is an increase of 362,453 people (+0.9%) from July 1, 2022.

In the third quarter of 2022, Canada welcomed 122,145 immigrants.

Canada’s population increased by 776,217 people in the first nine months of 2022 and has already surpassed the total growth for any full-year period since Confederation in 1867.

As per 2021 census, Canada’s population was 36,991,981.
