Valentine’s dayis coming – and it’s on a Friday this year! Don’t miss this opportunity to make it the best celebration yet. If you’re enjoying this lover’s weekend in Calgary, make sure to treat yourself with these vegetarian (and some fully vegan, noted below) friendly places.
Maybe one of you is a carnivore and one of you is a herbivore? No need to compromise. Read on to find restaurants with conscious options for both.
No date? No problem. Many places deliver so you can watch rom-coms and crack a bottle of wine alongside a delicious, plant-based meal.
Ten Foot Henry
The Vibe: Upscale and romantic, this modern take on family style meals is intimate and involved. Ten Foot Henry has amazing staff who know their stuff and will ensure your experience is top notch. They do offer some meat dishes, but most of their menu is “vegetable-anchored”. Meaning you can share a whole veggie meal with lots of options and lots of class.
Must Try: Tomatoes (trust me), Roasted Carrot and Parsnip and a couple of your favourite cocktails.
1209 1 St SW, Calgary
The Vibe: An oldie but a goodie! This Calgary staple continues to serve up amazing vegetarian and vegan meals alongside lively and creative cocktails. Low lit atmosphere with table service and charm. Located conveniently on the newly reopened 17th Ave, their ever revolving menu keeps us coming back for more.
Must Try: Beach Front Hot Pot matched with a Cuke Collins.

Namskar Fine East Indian Restaurant
The Vibe: This beautiful sit-down restaurant has romantic decor with an Indian flair to match the cuisine. With over 20 items for vegetarians and vegans, plus meat dishes, this is the perfect place for those couples having trouble picking a restaurant based on diets. Plus, it’s a bit more upscale than some of the all-vegetarian cafes.
Must Try: Vegan Chana Masala and a Mango Lassi.
202 16 Ave NE, Calgary
The Vibe: Modern table service with street art inspired decor. The unique thing about the Street Eatery is that they have a full plant-based menu AND a full carnivore menu. They make many of their dishes available on both, not by simply omitting the meat, but with delicious substitutes and amazing recipes. They also have crazy milkshakes that are very instagrammable, especially with bae in the background.
Must Try: Halloumi Fries and a Sweet n’ Salty shake with a shot of butter ripple schnapps. Two straws, please.
890 4 Ave SW, Calgary
The Vibe: Time for all of your Riverdale dreams to come true. Burgers, milkshakes, fries and friends. This relaxed burger joint comes with easy counter service and a vegetarian’s dream. Most burger places have one option, if any, for veggies. Boogie’s boasts three different veggie patties! Choose your favourite, have a seat and let the cartoon hearts start floating around your head.
Must Try: “Saddle Up” any veggie burger (mushrooms, fried onion and regular or spicy bbq sauce).

Happy Veggie House
The Vibe: Great idea for a guaranteed delicious meal that will be done in time for your movie showing. The Happy Veggie House offers relaxed counter service of classic Chinese food made with fresh ingredients and mock meats. Show your partner how much you love them, as well as the planet, this Valentine’s Day!
Must Try: Vegetarian Dumplings and Veggie House Chow Mein.
#109, 303 Centre St SW, Calgary
The Vibe: Very cute diner experience with a modern and fresh look. Heart Choices might be best known for their vegan food truck at Calgary’s many festivals, but we love their stationary cafe. Easier to track down. First date? This relaxed atmosphere will allow you to chill out over some seriously good vegan Thai food.
Must Try: Kung Pao Beef-less Stir Fry and Vegan Chocolate Cake for a classic St. Valentine’s dessert.
4127 6 Street NE, Calgary
The Vibe: Think: cute Italian place but less gluten and more dairy free cheesecake. Have trouble finding a place to eat out with your dietary restrictions? Get to Avatara. Gluten free, dairy free options and vegan friendly. Comfort food for all. What more could you want on Valentine’s Day?
Must Try: Beyond Meat Pizza (upgrading to vegan cheese is free) and Strawberry Champagne Cheesecake (dairy free) for a life changing dessert.
3406 3 Ave NW, Calgary
The Vibe: Planning on eating in? Order from Veg-In YYC. Not necessarily the most romantic place in town, but if you’re eating in, all that matters is that the food is great and you won’t be disappointed. The friendly and speedy service makes this fusion Indian food even better. Pairs well with romance.
Must Try: The Fiesta Smashed Samosa and Tofuka plus the Vegan Red Velvet Cake.
