2020 Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship Program for Canada Immigration Opens Oct. 13 2020

Immigration Minister Marco Mendicino announced today details 2020 Parents and Grandparents (PGP) Program that will allow immigrants to Canada, who are now citizens or permanent residents to sponsor their parents or grandparents for Canadian Permanent Residency.

How does 2020 Parents and Grandparents Program work:

 
  1. Canadians and permanent residents who are who wish to sponsor their parents and grandparents to come to Canada will have an opportunity to submit an interest to sponsor form online from 12 p.m. EDT on October 13, 2020, to 12 p.m. EST on November 3, 2020. Alternative formats for the interest to sponsor form—such as a paper copy, Braille and large print—are available, upon request, to persons with disabilities. Contact the IRCC Client Support Centre at 1-888-242-2100 or by email until November 3, 2020.
  2. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will randomly select potential sponsors and send them an invitation to submit an application.
  3. Once the interest to sponsor period ends on November 3, 2020, and the form has been removed from the website, IRCC will review all submissions, remove any duplicate entries and randomize the forms. Selected applicants will have 60 days to submit their application. Invitations issued by IRCC are not transferable to another sponsor.

How many spots are available for 2020:

A maximum of 10,000 applications will be accepted for processing as part of the 2020 PGP intake.

In 2021, IRCC will open a new intake of interest to sponsor forms to accept a total of 30,000 new applications.

Who is eligible to apply:

 

To sponsor your parent or grandparent you must be at least 18 years old, live in Canada, a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada, or a person registered in Canada as an Indian under the Canadian Indian Act and you must have enough money to support the persons you want to sponsor.

Conditions that make Canadians or permanent residents ineligible for applying include conviction of a violent criminal offence, any offence against a relative or any sexual offence inside or outside Canada, and did not payback select loans, and bonds.

How much money is required:

Those who wish to sponsor apply for 2020 Parents and Grandparents Program should have enough income to support all the people they are financially responsible for once you become a sponsor including themselves. Those invited to apply should provide proof including Notice of Assessment from the Canada Revenue Agency for each of the three taxation years immediately preceding the date of your application required. The government has not announced the minimum income requirements for the 2020 season yet.
