Find inspiration at the crossroads of art, science and engineering at Beakerhead. This phenomenal annual festival is back this weekend featuring a massive tetrapod exoskeleton, Prosthesis.

Beakerhead is a mash-up of art and science. You can meet Prosthesis, and luminary bunnies, visit the Dark Arts Market, Beaker Bar and Beaker Eats and enjoy a circus show from September 23rd to 25th.
September 23rd @ Telus Spark
The festival kicks off at Telus Spark, Calgary’s science museum on September 23rd.
The free event runs from 6:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. and will feature some of the coolest mash-ups of art and science. You can get a sneak peek of tetrapod, enjoy Infinity Dome shows, have your say with Chatterbox and learn how to hack a piece of furniture.
The evening will also feature a PechaKucha Night which requires a ticket.

A ‘LOT’ of Curiosity @ 919 8 Ave SW
The real party, where you can experience the “best mash-up, smash-up of science, technology, engineering, art and math your senses can witness”, begins on September 24th when you can see Prosthesis, the largest tetrapod exoskeleton.
The initial development by B.C’s Jonathan Tippett of Exosapien Technologies won the Guinness World Record for the largest tetrapod exoskeleton. Prosthesis was a research and development initiative to create massive powered mech suits.
The demonstration of the 4000-kilogram human-powered racing exoskeleton, Prosthesis will take place on Saturday, September 24th at 3:30 and 6:30 pm and on Sunday, September 25th at 3:30 pm at 919 8 Ave SW, Calgary.
As per Beakerhead organisers, Calgary Mayor Gondek will be piloting the tetrapod on the 25th.
In addition to Prosthesis, you can expect to see some old favourites like luminary bunnies and octopus tentacles, and local performances at Victoria Park on September 24th from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. and September 25th from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The Dark Arts Market will take place from 12:00 – 9:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Beakerhead
Have a 360-degree experience in The DOME, by B!g Art.
The DOME is a massive geodome of hemispherical thin-shell structure (lattice-shell) based on a geodesic polyhedron that is 44ft in radius and 22ft tall. This has full projection capability on the inside and spectacular surround sound. This geodome will feature a variety of free entertainment and programming.
The DOME programming includes circus shows by Le Cirque de la Nuit, Flint the Robo Pup, Acorn Thief Entertainment, and even yoga and storytelling at Century Gardens, 826 8 St SW, Calgary.

What is a festival without food and drink? Beakerhead has collaborated with Cold Garden for its Beaker Bar to serve up unique brews, bevies, and more! It is not just drinks at the bar. There will be live art, cirque performers and music by Wes Thom, Ryan Postic, Tay Tay, NRT Fashions, Kale Barr and Contemporary Vice.
Beaker Bar runs from 12 -9 pm on Saturday, and 12- 5 pm on Sunday in the atrium of 801 7th Ave SW, Calgary.

Have an ultimate geeky 18+ party at Dark Arts Restaurant featuring the best of Beakerhead artists and this includes DJ Rice, Daisy Deville, Le Cirque de la Nuit, Acorn Thief Entertainment, The FloWarrior, Mirror Man, DJ Jadé, Flowbot, and Angela Smart.
The after-party takes place at The Dark Arts, 838 11 Ave SW on September 24th from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. and costs $17.87 (tickets).
