Hailing from the Piikani Nation and Blood Tribe of the Blackfoot Confederacy, Crow Shoe’s acting career began with his role as a stunt rider in the Oscar-nominated film The Revenant. He is currently filming Dream in California and will soon return to Alberta to lead the Stampede Parade.

“I grew up at the Calgary Stampede,” said Crow Shoe in a news release. “I am proud to say my family has been part of this event since 1985 and I am honoured to continue that tradition leading the Parade and opening The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth. I’m fortunate to have made so many memories and life-long friendships at the Calgary Stampede and I look forward to making so many more along the Parade route this year.”

As well as leading the Parade, Crow Shoe will serve as Master of Ceremonies at the Calgary Stampede Powwow on July 7 and 8. The event will take place at the Saddledome from 1 to 6 p.m. each day, where he will guide the audience through the competition.

The Parade begins at 9 a.m. on July 5, with a prelude at 7:30 a.m. For those unable to attend, Corus Entertainment and Global Calgary will broadcast the Parade live on Global Television, its app, Globalnews.ca, YouTube, Facebook, and Amazon Prime.

Following the Parade, the public can enjoy free admission to Stampede Park from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with the Stampede Parade to Park presented by Suncor.
