The partnership includes developing a new Event Park, public infrastructure improvements for the Village at ICE District, and the demolition of the old Coliseum at Exhibition Lands.
Per the news release, the ICE District Phase I has contributed $3.2 billion in economic impact to Edmonton.
The next phase will see the construction of a 140,000-square-foot Event Park on the current Fan Park site.
The proposed Event Park will feature both indoor and outdoor facilities designed to host concerts, sports events, festivals, and cultural activities. The space will also accommodate community programming, aiming to attract more residents and visitors to the area.
The City of Edmonton will own the facility, while OEG Sports & Entertainment will operate it.
The estimated cost for the Event Park is $250 million, with contributions of $84 million from OEG Sports & Entertainment, $69 million from the City of Edmonton through the Capital City Downtown Community Revitalization Levy (CRL), and $97 million from the provincial government. The funding aligns with Alberta’s previous investment in Calgary’s event centre project.
Adjacent to the Event Park, the Village at ICE District is planned as a medium-density development featuring green spaces, commercial establishments, and a variety of housing options. The housing initiative will involve partnerships with multiple organizations, offering units ranging from purpose-built rentals and student accommodations to affordable housing.
The $68.2 million public infrastructure project for the Village includes $3 million from OEG Sports & Entertainment, $33.8 million from the City of Edmonton, and $31.4 million from the Government of Alberta.
Per the news release, this investment is part of broader efforts to support urban renewal and align with similar funding commitments made in Calgary.
