$250 Working Canadians Rebate: Here is Who Will Get the New Announced Cheque From the Federal Govt.

Today, the federal government announced that legislation will be introduced to provide a $250 Working Canadians Rebate to an estimated 18.7 million people in early spring 2025.

This tax-free financial aid targets individuals who have worked through 2023, earning up to a net income of $150,000.

To qualify, recipients must have filed their 2023 tax returns by the end of December 2024. Eligibility hinges on specific criteria including having claimed tax credits for contributions to the Canada Pension Plan (CPP) or Quebec Pension Plan (QPP), as well as for Employment Insurance (EI) or Quebec Parental Insurance Plan (QPIP) premiums. Additionally, individuals must have reported income received from EI or QPIP benefits.

Further conditions require that applicants be residents of Canada as of March 31, 2025, are not incarcerated for 90 days preceding April 1, 2025, and are alive on April 1, 2025.

The rebates will be issued automatically by the Canada Revenue Agency via direct deposit or check.

Trudeau government has also announced that Goods and Services Tax/Harmonized Sales Tax (GST/HST) will be suspended on select items from December 14, 2024, to February 15, 2025.

$250 Working Canadians Rebate Eligibility

Canadians who worked in 2023, earning up to $150,000 individual net income, and meet the following requirements are eligible for the tax-free $250 rebate:

  • Filed their 2023 tax return by December 31, 2024, and:
    • claimed the tax credit for Canada Pension Plan or Quebec Pension Plan contributions on employment or self-employment earnings;

      It’s unfair that those who need extra money are not getting anything like Seniors & those on disability income assistance, Canadians shouldn’t have to choose between groceries or heat. Prime Minister we’re struggling too. It seems like every time you send out extra money people on income assistance and seniors are forgotten. We are Canadians too and all Canadians should be treated the same. Maybe you will make an announcement that seniors and those on disability, income assistance will be getting a bonus check too.🍁

      Someone explain this to me because to me, it doesn’t make any SENSE!!

      The only people getting this money are those who work. What about the people who don’t work (and not even for lack of trying). I mean, the people who are getting the extra money are ALREADY working; you’d think common sense would say to give it to the ones who AREN’T working!!

      (I heard about it today, and I was like, “Ummmmm.” (that doesn’t even make any SENSE)!

      Which Party other then the Liberal party if u can call them a party let alone a government wants to advocate for NO TAXES ON Seniors Pensions and a reduction in taxes for all hard working Canadians instead of these vote buying handouts that WE keep Paying For with OUR Money. I could be wrong but as I remember it Taxes were to Pay for the (Wars) 1&2 but Greed set in, so in today’s world yes there has to be some taxes but Not Money Grabs left right and centre, like the air we breathe. Any takers, lmao 😎
