More and more Alberta Parks are reopening this weekend for camping and hence our weekly getaway suggestions for this week rely heavily on trips to provincial parks.
Here are 8 suggestions for a getaway this weekend:
Red Lodge Provincial Park
The Red Lodge campground is located in the trees along the Little Red Deer River. For spring campers, enjoy the valley starting to bloom with hikes, or get out on the water in your canoe or kayak for a paddle or some fishing. There is a beach area as well for picnics or relaxing with a book.

Beaverhill Bird Observatory
Rise with the sun and visit Beaverhill Bird Observatory for songbird banding. The annual spring migration of songbirds occurs from May until early June, with end of May being the peak in songbird abundance. Birds captured include warblers, nuthatches, woodpeckers, thrushes, blackbirds, orioles, sparrows and more! Join Beaverhill Bird Observatory biologists for a morning in the woods to learn about the research being conducted.

Peter Lougheed Provincial Park
Soak in the beauty of Kananaskis Country with a campsite at one of Peter Lougheedβs campgrounds. There are 13 in total, with Elkwood, Boulton Creek, and Lower Lake open for May 12th. Boulton Creek offers all RV hookups and tenting; Lower Lake offers 83 unserviced lots; and Elkwood offers power hookup or unserviced sites.

Where: off of the Kananaskis Trail on the Smith Dorian Trail
Lundbreck Falls Provincial Recreation Area
Choose from either classic tenting with no power and no services, or an RV campsite at Lundbreck falls this spring. It is a smaller and quieter park in southern Alberta along the Crowsnest River. There are scenic areas for picnics and photos, firepits at each site, and excellent river fishing. The Falls are a site to see as well!

Where: west of Lethbridge and Fort McLeod on the Crowsnest Highway.
Chain Lakes Provincial Park
This park is on the southwest edge of Alberta where you can enjoy warm spring weather, blooming meadows, and epic scenery. The Chain Lakes campground has serviced and unserviced sites, all of which are private from the trees and equipped with fire pits. On the lake, enjoy boating, fishing, or an evening paddle.
When: camping season opens May 12th
Where: south of Longview on Highway 22
Plamandon Whitesands Resort
This cozy northern Alberta resort gives you a weekend getaway and an escape. Within their RV and tent sites, you can bask in nature with the starry skies, the surrounding forests, and the beauty of Lac La Biche. Their driving range is officially open for the season, so donβt forget your clubs!

Aspen Beach Provincial Park
Aspen Beach is an easy getaway for anyone in Edmonton or central Alberta. Located on Gull Lake, this campground is massive with over 100 serviced sites, and over 100 tent sites. This is a relaxing beachside getaway, with plenty of places for relaxation. Gull is also a popular boating lake and fishing lake. There are a few trailheads located along the shores of the lake if you are up for a hike!

Good Knights Entertainment
