Aero Gatineau-Ottawa: RAF Red Arrows and CF Snowbirds to Fly Over Ottawa Today

The Gatineau-Ottawa Airport is poised to host the largest air show in the history of Canada’s Capital Region from September 6 to 8, 2024.

The Aero Gatineau-Ottawa event, now in its 7th edition, is part of the centennial celebrations of the Royal Canadian Air Force and will feature performances by top international aerial teams, including the Canadian Forces Snowbirds, the Royal Air Force Red Arrows from the UK, and the US Air Force’s Thunderbirds.

As a prelude to the airshow, the Red Arrows and Snowbirds will soar over the new British High Commission on Sussex Drive at around 6:15 pm on Wednesday, September 4. This will be followed by a flyover by the Thunderbirds across Gatineau and Ottawa around 4:00 pm on Thursday, following their arrival at Ottawa Airport.

Over the weekend, the air show will offer more than five hours of aerial demonstrations each day. Noteworthy performances will include the Canadian Forces’ CF-18 demonstration team and the vintage Supermarine Spitfire MK IX. Additionally, the show will highlight in-flight pyrotechnics by the Ghost Writer on Friday evening, alongside a 150-drone light show orchestrated by Fusion Drone Shows.

On the ground, spectators will have the opportunity to get a closer look at various aircraft, including gyrocopters, the C-45 Expeditor, helicopters, and an array of vintage aircraft.

Ticket holders to the air show can avail of free rides on the STO network and a shuttle service from Station Lorrain.

Aero Gatineau-Ottawa – Flypasts Schedule

  • Wednesday, September 4, between 2pm and 3:30pm: The Red Arrows and Snowbirds arrive at Gatineau-Ottawa Airport.
  • Wednesday, September 4, at approximately 6:15pm: The Red Arrows and the Canadian Forces Snowbirds will be doing a flypast over the new British High Commission on Sussex.
  • Thursday, September 5, at approximately 4pm: The Thunderbirds will be flying over Gatineau and Ottawa as they arrive for the Aero Gatineau-Ottawa. They will be landing at the Ottawa Airport at approximately 4pm.
  • Thursday, September 5, 4pm to 5pm – Ghost Writer flies over Gatineau – The impressive Ghost Writer will be flying over the skies in Gatineau and writing a special message to residents, with comedian Mathieu Dufour onboard.

Friday, September 6

Evening performance with the Snowbirds flying in formation at dusk, 150 drones lighting up the sky and the impressive Ghost Writer lighting up the night with over 200 pounds of pyro and LED lights in red, white and blue.

Doors open: 5:00 p.m.

Night show: 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Doors close: 9:00 p.m.

Saturday, September 7 and Sunday, September 8, 2024 (Same show on both days)

Thunderbirds, Red Arrows, Snowbirds, CF-18 and many more.

Doors open: 10:00 a.m.

Ground displays: 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Air show: 11:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (approx)

Preliminary order of show:

Opening: Thunderbirds

Mid-afternoon: Red Arrows

Closing: Snowbirds

Doors close: 5:00 p.m.

All events are weather permitting.
