The provincial government will invest $4 million to support renovations throughout the building to enhance the performance space.
Renowned performing arts hub in downtown Edmonton, the nearly 170,000 square feet Citadel Theatre is also home to the Foote Theatre School, one of the largest theatre schools in Canada.
The renewal project will include upgrades such as replacing elevators, window glazing and skylights, flooring and mechanical systems, renovating washrooms, adding stairlifts to increase accessibility, and renovating the flexible hospitality venue to maintain the high-quality performance space that the Citadel Theatre provides and ensuring its longevity for future generations.
Minister of Culture Jason Luan announcing the funding said, “The Citadel Theatre is a hub for the performing arts in Alberta. Through development of cultural infrastructure like the Citadel, we are creating jobs, helping to diversify our economy and building vibrant communities for all Albertans to enjoy.”
